“May you and your family have a GREAT START to 2026!”

Love Notes: The Help We Need

We, too, have a “journey” like the people of old in the Psalm below. The “ascension” may look different for us, but I can assume that many are trying to reach certain destinations (in personal life, family, etc.) for whatever reason or another. We know that we can’t fulfill this “journey” alone. Will our help and support come from “the mountains” or creation or inanimate sources? Or will our help and support come from something real and withstanding?

I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
My help comes from the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth!

He will not let you stumble;
the one who watches over you will not slumber.
Indeed, he who watches over Israel
    never slumbers or sleeps.

The Lord himself watches over you!
The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.
The sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon at night.

The Lord keeps you from all harm
    and watches over your life.
The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go,
    both now and forever.

One theologian (Working Preacher, 2014) suggests that people (like us) name the threats and fears that are faced and stare those fears down by saying these words out loud: “My help comes from the Lord, who makes heaven and earth.”

***NOTE: Find a quiet moment and private spot. Voice these things aloud. Be REAL and HONEST. Ugly cry if you need to. Keep praying and believing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Observe the ways (and timing) that God wants to answer – it might look the same or different than what you expect. Remember that He’s God and He knows BEST.

What a beautiful thing to be able to turn all of our concerns over to the LORD during the course of our life and family journeying… Shall we?

Talk soon.

With love always
