Does Anything Have To Be Wrong?

Parent Question: “Does anything have to be wrong?”

I recently reflected on a conversation I had with a parent almost a year ago.

Many parents “shy away” from prevention simply because it seems to imply that something is “wrong” with their children or families. More conversations with stakeholders, leaders and organizations revealed this even more: People are terrified that abuse/trafficking could happen to the children in their care.

When God gifted me the concept of “That’s Too Heavy For Me” in 2023, I quickly began jotting the ideas on sticky notes and journal pages. My doctoral program “stretched” me in a “good way” to view my work with parents and children as extremely valuable in today’s times.

I aligned the resource with child psychology research and abuse prevention best practice. I continued to draw from my experiences “in the field” as a teacher and court-ordered parenting professional.

As I developed the resource, I realized even more how God’s love for our children, mentees, students, nieces/nephews, etc. is so immense!

Empowering children to “have a voice” is no small thing!

Let’s make our homes, schools, churches, and communities safer… Spread the word if you can as a mom, leader, mentor, counselor, teacher…

❤️ I also created an information page and tips for how to use “That’s Too Heavy For Me?” with not just K-5 students but also middle grades and special needs populations @ https://keturahteasley.com/child-safety-resource/

❤️ I’ve had parent and clinical therapist intern feedback so far. Please keep me posted on how you’ve decided to use the resource in your home, school, work, or community. I would love to hear from you!

With kindness,

Keturah
